The last time I saw the Mount Baker Toppers was at the Ferndale Old Settler’s Picnic in July. They’re a bunch of guys who put on a great program: some really topnotch barbershop harmonies, with a lot of old time favorites. I’ve never seen their holiday program, but I’d venture there’s no finer way to pass an hour or two on a cold December afternoon.

Plus, the group’s director is a pretty funny guy.

  • When: Sunday, December 16, 2:00 PM
  • What: The Bellingham chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Mount Baker Toppers men’s chorus has been in existence for over 45 years, drawing members from Northwest Washington and British Columbia. Their music repertoire emphasizes not only the unique tradition of barbershop harmony, but also includes a diverse array of popular and patriotic songs. The group is directed by Doug Broersma.

  • When: Saturday, December 15, 12:00-4:00 PM
  • What: Children and families can come anytime during the four-hour period to make seasonal crafts, take your own pictures with the Museum’s Victorian Santa, and see the hand animated movie the Snowman at the Museum’s holiday happenings Family Activity day. The annual event brings families together to make a variety of holiday crafts, including sparkle scratch art cards, clay elf sculptures, felt tree decorations and more! Activities are geared to preschool through grade school children and their caregivers. Refreshments are provided by the Museum Docents. All materials and refreshments are free.

  • When: Sunday, December 9, 2:00 PM
  • What: Bellingham’s own Bag Pipe Band presents a concert in the Museum Rotunda Room including traditional Scottish pipe band tunes and special songs for the season. This is the community’s once-a-year opportunity to hear the Bellingham Bagpipe Band perform inside for a sit-down concert. It will be a rousing, stirring afternoon of fine music.
